Notes
Soon you'll be saying, “Eat your heart out, Cantina Laredo!” 😉
During the video, you may have noticed that I used a few handy gadgets. I want you to know that you can make guacamole without using any of them, but each one of these gadgets truly sparks my joy! Shout out to my other Konmari fans!
I'm all about gadgets that make life simpler,
and what busy mother of 4 wouldn’t want that, right?
If you’re like me, when you see great gadgets, you want to know where in the world you can find them. So I'll list them below to make things quick and simple for you:
The avocado slicer is a huge winner here! It’s not sharp like a knife so children can even use it easily without concerns over cut fingers and the like. It also gives you beautiful, even slices every time, and makes removing that slippery pit as easy as pie!
The garlic press. This thing gets used at least 5 out of every 7 days around here…I love it! It’s heavy duty stainless steel, so it’s a true work horse. #TheThingRocks!
For juicing citrus, there are many ways that work, but using this little gadget is my absolute favorite. It’s quick, effective, and offers easy cleanup. (Score!!) Slice your citrus and place it zest side up into to press. And here’s a great little trick: After that first press, I turn the citrus onto its side and press it that way, which removes a ton more juice!
You may have also noticed that our favorite pepper grinder had a starring role in the video. I love this thing so much that I've even gifted it several times. There's just nothing that tastes quite like freshly ground pepper. Oh, did you know that pepper has been found to increase the absorption of some nutrients big time…up to 2,000 percent!
Now, Jarrod always says that recipes are merely suggestions to me, and it’s true.
So, it won't surprise you when I recommend that you take this recipe and make it your own.
It breaks my heart to think that some people might look at this recipe and think, “I just can’t stand the taste of cilantro!” and because of that they wouldn’t even try it. But they could have simply omitted the cilantro or added parsley in its place and been in guac heaven.
Others might think, “That would never be enough spice for me,” without even considering the possibility of adding more chili powder, cumin, pepper, or even cayenne.
So I'm going to let you in on a secret…you should always, always add more herbs and spices to your food whenever you can. They are GREAT for your health, so if a recipe does not call for a certain spice and you think it might be good, go ahead and try it! And when a recipe does call for herbs and spices, go ahead a try a little extra.
If the recipe seems to have too many tomatoes for you? Then add less. Don’t like sweet onions? Add scallions. You get the idea!
Now you know I'm not going to leave you wondering about our favorite ways to enjoy guac. We LOVE it on these coconut wraps, as a lettuce wrap filling, with chia chips or flax crackers, and as a creamy chili topping.
I can't wait to hear how you enjoy this guacamole, so be sure let me know.
P.S. Remember that fantastic salsa I told you about recently? You should try a bit of that in place of the fresh tomatoes sometime. It’s really good!
Here's to your health!
